For us to understand better the story of this woman, we need to read this first…
Levictus 15
19-23 “When a woman has a discharge of blood, the impurity of her menstrual period lasts seven days. Anyone who touches her is unclean until evening. Everything on which she lies or sits during her period is unclean. Anyone who touches her bed or anything on which she sits must wash his clothes and bathe in water; he remains unclean until evening.
24 “If a man sleeps with her and her menstrual blood gets on him, he is unclean for seven days and every bed on which he lies becomes unclean.
25-27 “If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, but not at the time of her monthly period, or has a discharge that continues beyond the time of her period, she is unclean the same as during the time of her period. Every bed on which she lies during the time of the discharge and everything on which she sits becomes unclean the same as in her monthly period. Anyone who touches these things becomes unclean and must wash his clothes and bathe in water; he remains
Luke 8
43-45 In the crowd that day there was a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with hemorrhages. She had spent every penny she had on doctors but not one had been able to help her. She slipped in from behind and touched the edge of Jesus’ robe. At that very moment her hemorrhaging stopped. Jesus said, “Who touched me?”
When no one stepped forward, Peter said, “But Master, we’ve got crowds of people on our hands. Dozens have touched you.”
46 Jesus insisted, “Someone touched me. I felt power discharging from me.”
47 When the woman realized that she couldn’t remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed.
48 Jesus said, “Daughter, you took a risk trusting me, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed!”
Let us really understand the story of this woman.
This one was a woman, critically ill for 12 years that tried everything to be healed, spent all her money but could not find a solution for her problem. All of us woman, we have our days in a month, can be 5 to 7 days maximum and to be honest are not the days that we enjoy the most, isnt’t it? Now, imagine the situation of this woman who for 4380 days had a nonstop hemorrhage and as we see above, life in those old days were completely different from today.
In her condition she could not go outside, speak with people or have a normal life. She had to suffer in silence, alone and in shame. Imagine 12 years without a social life, no houseguest, no husband, no children, no visits from family. 12 years of never being touch by anyone. No one would stay around her, no one would go where she was and no one would visit her.
Without hope, frustrated, depressed, abandoned, weak, alone, ill, no money, shaking, trembling, fearful…. She recognized her need of being helped and moved by the only thing left in her life FAITH, she overcame everything we can imagine fear, doubts, thoughts, the crowd of people….
One can feel and be helpless, hopeless and all the ess in this life, however there’s ONE thing that we still have got, that no circumstances in this world can take it…Our Faith!…
How brave she was and how I want to imitate her example! In silence, without any word or wanted to call people’s attention she went with the FAITH that only a simple touch in the edge of Jesus robe will change her life forever, and indeed happened exactly as she determined, in the very same moment Power came out from HIM.
If we just touch God thought our faith, imagine what can happen? Ahhhhh, what can happen…..
God is ready for you when you are ready for Him, just stretch your hand and touch Jesus with your faith.
Jesus honored that woman before everybody, before she was rejected and was living in shame and hiding from everybody. He helped her to reclaim her dignity before all.
In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed. Luke 8:47
Jesus did not ask, but she decided once again to be courageous and say the all story. She assumed before the Lord and before a big multitude, she poured out her private thoughts maybe for the first time in her life
Not only the blood was gone, the shame as gone too.
Her story starts with her being called by “Woman”, but finished with Jesus calling her “Daughter”, what an amazing thing to ear from God, unfortunately few are those that can hear that.
