The story of this woman really touched my life, that’s why I really want to share with you.
It’s all about a Samaritan woman who was frustrated in her love live, after 5 failed marriages and now on a sinful relationship. At that time, woman didn’t have much value but imagine this one, how she was seen by others, what people would speak about her and how rejected and humiliated she should be. Comments like: “Look the one who beds every men!…” should be a daily bread for her.
But it was exactly this woman that our Lord Jesus reached and had one of the longest conversations. Let’s see…
16 He said, “Go call your husband and then come back.”
17-18 “I have no husband,” she said.
She was sincere and spoke the truth without twisting the facts. She didn’t care about what He could thing about her, she just assumed who she was.
“That’s nicely put: ‘I have no husband.’ You’ve had five husbands, and the man you’re living with now isn’t even your husband. You spoke the truth there, sure enough.”
This made me think so much, because it is clear that God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for those who are sincere and recognise their mistakes and want to change their wicked ways.
She was so sincere that Jesus for twice affirmed it and He did not accused or judge her in any moment.
25 …The woman said, “I don’t know about that. I do know that the Messiah is coming. When he arrives, we’ll get the whole story.”
26 “I am he,” said Jesus. “You don’t have to wait any longer or look any further.”
What a revelation! Jesus reveled Himself to that woman. I do not remember if He did it to someone else… Indeed she was a woman with a past totally disturbed, but something really special called Jesus attention.
Something that He doesn’t see in many and keeps on not seeing… It’s called SINCERITY and that’s why He doesn’t reveal himself to the majority off people. Many can’t have an encounter with God in their life because they lack sincerity, humbleness and honesty to assume who they are.
The greatest thing that can ever happen to someone, is to be able to hear HIS VOICE saying: “I am he.”
When those conditions are gathered, sincerity, humbleness and total surrender then immediately the person will have an encounter with Him. He said: “You don’t have to wait any longer or look any further.”
This lady had an encounter with God in about 10 to 15 minutes!…
What amazes me is that there are so many people, calling themselves Christians but never heard His Voice. Why?
27 Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked. They couldn’t believe he was talking with that kind of a woman. No one said what they were all thinking, but their faces
28-30 The woman took the hint and left. In her confusion she left her water pot. Back in the village she told the people, “Come see a man who knew all about the things I did, who knows me inside and out. Do you think this could be the Messiah?” And they went out to see for themselves.
The water pot can represent the old life that we live behind when we find Jesus. She realized that the physical wasn’t as important as the spiritual. That pot behind symbolizes the life we have to lose so that we can gain our salvation.
We see as well that she wasn’t selfish but immediately after her encounter with God, she didn’t keep for herself but went and share with others, how her life has changed. Why people should believe her? Wasn’t she a nobody with a very bad reputation? She found God, confessed her sins and was transformed in to a new woman.
A transformation in life get’s people’s attention.
39-42 Many of the Samaritans from that village committed themselves to him because of the woman’s witness:
Before she was rejected, criticized, seen by others as a foolish woman…. But now she was seen as a wise woman, people would listen to her voice and follow her example.
She went to the well as a woman unhappy, frustrated, rejected, criticized by others, ashamed, embraced, cursed, selfish….However, she left the well completely different:
Happy, confident, forgiven, excited, light, and unselfish…and above all she found the true HUSBAND….THE LORD JESUS.
