Spiritual Salmonella

Matthew 13:47-50

The Parable of the Dragnet

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away.  So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just,  and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

At the end of the age there will be a separation!..From the “Good Fish” and the “Bad Fish”!…

Let’s go back in history…

The primitive church was persecuted by Rome and they used to gather secretly by using a symbol: A fish
Fish
Ichthys , from the Greek word for fish: ἰχθύς, (capitalized ΙΧΘΥΣ or ΙΧΘΥϹ) is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, the ends of the right side extending beyond the meeting point so as to resemble the profile of a fish, used by early Christians as a secret way to identify Christians.” (Ichthys) is an acronym for “Ίησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ”, (Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr), which translates into English as “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Savior”.

The primitive Christians never denied their faith, they stood up and died for their faith!…They were the “Good Fish”!…

Nowadays we have many people that entitle themselves of Christians, however they are just “Bad Fish”!… They are contaminated by their sins, lusts, cravings and desires. They were brought in to the net, they are in the church, sing hymns, use the name of Jesus, give their offerings and tithes, evangelize however they don’t qualify to God’s Kingdom!…

In the same way Salmonella (A bacteria) defiles fish, and it’s not good for consumption, today we have “Spiritual Salmonella”!…Everything that comes to make a “Good Fish” to rotten!…

So what will be the criteria?  What qualifies a”Good Fish” and disqualifies a”Bad Fish”?

“Good Fish”

  • Prioritize their spiritual life
  • Hold on to their faith
  • Shun evil
  • Maintain their holiness and sanctity
  • Live in faithfulness
  • Obey God’s word

“Bad Fish”

  • Prioritize materialism
  • Satisfy their own desires and cravings
  • Lustily
  • Malicious
  • Envious
  • Hypocrites
  • Lies / Gossip
  • Adultery / Fornication
  • Hold Grudge and Hatred

There’s only one way to be a “Good Fish”.

We have to surrender our lives to God so that he can change our nature and remove the “Spiritual Salmonella”!…

By the way, for those who are in the faith and do qualify to be a “Good Fish”, beware that you do not become disqualified!… See below!…

1 Corinthians 9:27

“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

Very strong and very true!! Only I can decide what kind of Salmonella i choose to be, either Good( obedient)or bad( rotten). I chose to be good not only with my words but through my actions and attitude towards the things of God and my character as Men Of GOD!!! Keep on inspiring

  3. Sally Kimondo says:

This message is self explanatory with a clear and simple reference! When a fish is bad or starts to go bad it smell very bad and if eaten when it’s bad it can be poisonous or lethal to the body! As a Christian what kind of smell do I produce (the perfume) is it good or bad!
How submissive and obedient am I to the things of God! I need to continue to concentrate myself with the spiritual diet of God and to turn away from my worldly desires by examining myself! To always live in faithfulness, prioritise my spiritual life, shun evil and obey God! As I can only pass to others what I have. Very inspiring Pastor! Thanks for sharing and remain blessed.

    Spiritual salmonela …
Pastor I this message for me was very strong and straigt to the point because for me was about with what type of food I been feeding my spiritual life !
Salmonela its a bacteria that we can find in diferents types of food and also unclean places!
I dont want to feed my spiritual life with things that does not please God like the bad fish list but with the good things I want to be a good fish so I can be kept inside of the basket.

Thank you for this message .

    Dear Pastor,
This message is very strong and self explanatory, I need to look inside of myself and see what category I belong. As the saying goes ” you are what you eat “, if I have been feeding my spirit man with potentially dangerous food then I will be spiritually sick with salmonela.

But I do not want to be contaminated with salmonela. I want to be the good fish and do the will of God.

Thank you pastor for this message that really benefited me greatly. I think that for us to accept to turn away from being a “bad fish”, there must be conviction from the Holy Spirit when we read this message. But that conviction cannot happen when the heart is hardened, only when we open it. To open our heart we have to consider that whatever is written in the bible, whatever warnings we have there, it is because God foresaw the threats and our fall. Therefore he revealed to us the knowledge of the future. Knowledge is the reason why he cast out Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden, a knowledge we shouldn’t have had. But he forgave us and gave us knowledge so that we can change the present. We must admit before God and to ourselves that if we didn’t know the future, then no flesh would probably be saved and that even when we fall many times and return again, it’s because of that knowledge of the (good) future (reward + promises) we now have. Most importantly, how can we get to the future if we don’t acknowledge that there is a problem in the present?
