Chameleon Christians

What a Chameleon and some “Christians” have in common?

Bear with me and I will let you know.

Have you seen a Chameleon? Do you know his characteristics? Color change in chameleons has functions in social signaling and in reactions to temperature and other conditions, as well as in camouflage.  The relative importance of these functions varies with the circumstances and environment they are in.

That’s exactly what happens with many who say they are Christians!…They change according the circumstances. Some are indeed Christians on a Sunday morning. They come to church, worship, praise God, give offerings and tithe. However Monday to Saturday they go clubbing, swear words, gossip, live in fornication, adultery, sexual promiscuity, lying, shout, yell, become moody, hold grudges, etc..

Here goes a list of Characteristics of Chameleon Christians“.

  • Mood swings
  • Double personality
  • Lack of sincerity
  • Religiousness
  • Lack of commitment
  • Lack of fear of God
  • Unfaithfulness
  • Selfishness

That’s the question we should ask ourselves: I am a true Christian or a Chameleon one?

This is really strong I grew up hearing people using this creature to describe peoples behaviour and characters and this is just so strong. If you have seen this creature you would be afraid and not want this character I actually used to be afraid of a camelon becauseI would not see it until I was already about to touch the leaf when I was getting my fruit in the orchard.

I disagree with you on the mood swings, because that is human nature and also it could be a chemical in balance in the brain that needs medical attention. The rest of the things I agree with you.

Pastor, this question really got me thinking, I understand there are those who are “new Christian”. A person that is relatively new to the things of God and in the process of converting but the “chameleon Christian”, the person knows the truth and chooses only to practise what is convenient or what will be of benefit to him/her, even being able to adapt him/herself to their present environment this person knows who they are inside and what their conscience is saying to them and what they need to do to change.

I agree with u pastor thats why every single day we have to ask God to lead teach guide and give us wisdom so we can forever remain and live in righteousness for without Him we can manage on our own.

  4. Dear Pastor Elijah,

To comment on your post, I would say the following:

No one comes as the perfect package when they are still learning to know God. Whatever difficulties someone encounters in their faith, maybe we overcame that very easily as we faced it but for that person it’s not the same, they find it really difficult to overcome. Some people give up before trying because they can’t imagine they would ever be able to live not doing that thing anymore. I remember when God called me (or captured me), I couldn’t imagine a life free from smoking and drinking alcohol for myself for example, I didn’t even know where to start the battle but thanks God it is him who fights our battle and gets us through and he helped me and blessed me so much (but I was willing) that I am perfectly delivered from smoking and drinking alcohol today. So I also experienced what I saw other people testify about (and I was wondering how is it possible to overcome this type of things) and now I can say YES, God almighty can do everything and it is possible to overcome, there is a way for everything that is not of God to get out of our lives. But that doesn’t happen by itself, it requires our input: we must be willing to overcome it and we must be willing to open our hearts to God and humble ourselves and repent, we must be willing to accept the truth, to do the chain of prayers, the praise and worship, the sacrifices, we must be willing to be submitted to his will…Some people think they can never get there and when they hear the testimonies they think it’s from another planet and it is actually from another kingdom, right? But God can make them get there no matter what that issue is related to and they must sincerely want that from their heart. Otherwise it will not happen.

And salvation is a DAILY WORK, we must always have the word of God in our hearts and apply it towards any situation that we are facing. It is important that we take it seriously because as much as God loves us, he is also serious.

And if we love God just as the commandment says: “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’This is the first commandment.” Mark 12:30 NKJV, then we will
do whatever it takes to get those things out of our lives. Because we love him so much.

Paul himself faced a time of struggles, and we all know in which powerful way God used him but still he described some struggles in Romans 7:14-25. He said at one point: “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” but then he ends saying: “I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.” Verse 25, and there a way out. What seemed impossible becomes possible thanks to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

As we love God (if we do), we must try harder and push harder just as Paul did.

  5. God came around to find people on which he can put his mark and make them inherit his kingdom. And that mark we receive through the Lord Jesus Christ and we keep it by applying his teachings. Let us be that person God will find and put his mark on us. We need salvation.
